Durante delighted with Phoenix response

andrew-duranteWellington Phoenix hope the win over Melbourne Heart is a sign of the way they will finish the A-League season.

Now that the Finals Series is out of reach for the New Zealand club, skipper Andrew Durante says the players are able to play without pressure. That produced a quality 90 minute display against John Aloisi's side in Dunedin, with the Phoenix dominating far more than the 1-0 scoreline suggests.
The club's owners and fans have been hoping all season to see Wellington play attacking, possession-based football. The fact that it has taken so long to arrive is frustrating, but Durante sees positives ahead for his side.
"Victories have been few and far between and it is such a good feeling coming off after having won a game. It hasn't happened often enough this season," Durante said. "We said before the game, we've got nothing to lose, let's just get out there and go for it and throw everything at them and don't fear anything.
"It was a really good mentality out there and we really put them under the pump. It was a shame it was only 1-0, it could have been four or five."
It was a first win for caretaker coach Chris Greenacre, who took over last week after Ricki Herbert's resignation. Greenacre had admitted after the 2-1 home loss to Newcastle Jets on Wednesday that the club had gone flat, but the players responded superbly against the Heart.
It was an immediate response, too, with Jeremy Brockie hitting the crossbar after just two minutes. The Phoenix rattled the woodwork twice more before Brockie netted with a sweet volley after a run and cross from Paul Ifill.
Wellington are 8.50 to beat Western Sydney, who are 1.36. The Phoenix are 19.00 to win 1-0.
